The conception of equity and social justice in workers of the fish industry in Mar del Plata city in a comparative reading

Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2015, Vol 7, Issue 12

Abstract

We present preliminary progress of an exploratory research oriented to the study of knowledge of complex social processes - such as equity and social justice - in different social groups of workers in Argentina nowadays. First, we enquire whether social inequality is a process observed by those suffering its effects. Second, how it is judged from a moral point of view by those directly affected: if prevailing retributive logic or a distributive logic. We do a comparative analysis of data collected in 2010 and 2014 referred to two groups of workers severely affected by neoliberal policies in Argentina in the last three decades of the twentieth century. However, they differ in terms of their social and political awareness and have developed very different behaviors when facing the progressive deterioration of their living conditions: the workers of the fishing industry in Mar del Plata city and devoted workers of San Cayetano, in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.
