The eff ect of sonic entrainment with tuning forks upon the autonomic nervous system activity measured by the Ryodoraku method
Journal Title: Complementary & Alternative Medicine in Science - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Background. Acoustic-vibratory therapy with tuning forks is a new method used so far mainly in so-called alternative medicine. Scientifi c expla- nation of the relaxing eff ect of a sonic entrainment session, as measured by skin electroconductivity, is attempted in this paper. Material and me- thods. The study was carried out on 70 young and healthy persons at the age 21–26 ( x 22.8) randomly selected from a group of 150 students, subjec- ted to a sonic entrainment session with tuning forks. The control group consisted of 70 healthy persons at the age 21–25 ( x 21.6). Sonic entrainment of the body was carried out in a no-touch manner with 8 tuning forks of the Pythagorean scale, as well as 3 tuning forks with frequencies of 4096 Hz, 4160 Hz, and 4225 Hz. The session was conducted in a sedentary position for 30 minutes. In order to evaluate the response of the autonomic nervous system of the subjects to sonic entrainment with tuning forks electroconductivity of the skin was measured with a Ryodoraku unit prior to and immediately after the session. In the control group two comparative measurements were taken. Results. A statistically signifi cant decrease (p < 0.00001) in the mean values of skin electroconductivity was observed after the session in the investigated group. A statistically signifi cant (p < 0.05) diff erence between the mean values of the measured parameters after the session in the investigated and control groups was also noted. Conclusions. A single sonic entrainment session with tuning forks reduces the sympathetic nervous system tension. The obtained results could point to a relaxing eff ect of the session. This kind of research needs to be continued applying a series of sessions with healthy people, so that it might be possible in the future to adopt the tuning forks therapy for the needs of people aff ected by psychosomatic, or other, diseases.
