The Effect of Cellulose Succinate on Properties of Polymer Electrolyte Membranes Prepared by Blending Cellulose Acetate-Lithium Perchlorate

Abstract

The effect of cellulose succinate addition towards the characteristics of cellulose acetate-lithium perchlorate polymer electrolyte membranes was studied by the analysis of the functional groups using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy measurement, the ionic conductivity analysis utilizing EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) method, mechanical properties characterization by tensile tester measurements, thermal properties analysis by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), morphology analysis utilizing Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and crystallinity analysis by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements. The addition of cellulose succinate into the cellulose acetate-lithium perchlorate membranes tended to increase the ionic conductivity and thermal stability of membranes, however the mechanical properties of membranes were decreased and the membrane surface morphology changed to become more porous and irregular.
