Journal Title: International Journal of Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
Acute urinary retention is the inability to voluntarily pass urine. It is the most common urologic emergency. In Men, Acute urinary retention is most often secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia & it is very rare in Women, but affects them in their menopausal age. The urinary retention can be initially managed with analgesics and prophylactic antibiotics which on chronic usage may cause muscle weakness, signs of infection, mental/mood changes, severe skin reactions etc. This may be the sole reason, people go behind natural remedies. In Ayurveda, the urinary retention can be correlated with Mutraghata for which several medications have been explained. Musali Kashaya which is explained by Vagbhata is an easily available and effective formulation.
