Journal Title: ІНОЗЕМНА ФІЛОЛОГІЯ - Year 2015, Vol 128, Issue
Abstract
The article describes the main semantic, structural and syntactic peculiarities of Ukrainian and English particles and explores functions and semantics of the particle azh. A contrastive analysis of the English-language correspondences of the particle azh in Ukrainian-English dictionaries is carried out. The translation variants of the particle azh are examined on the basis of poetic works by Taras Shevchenko and their translations by Peter Fedynsky, Vera Rich, John Weir, Herbert Marshall, Olga Shartse and Irina Zheleznova. The article provides a list of contextual correspondences of the particle azh compiled according to its functional semantics on the basis of the above-mentioned translations. Translation methods of rendering the particle azh are indicated in the article.
