The history of woman in the struggle for independent: Olga Huzar

Abstract

The article analyzes the life and various activities of an outstanding person, very intellectual woman, social activist, philanthropist and patron of art Olga Husar. Her personality considered in the context of the formation of the Ukrainian social and political movements in Bukovina during the first half of the twentieth century. Had reproduced the genealogy of Olga Husar and her circle of personal and social contacts. Among her friends and acquaintances was a well-known activist of Bukovina, Galicia, Transcarpathia, senators, writers, editors of famous magazines, translators, Church leaders. Had disclosed her role in the formation and development of women’s movement in Bukovina. One of the main activities of Olga Husar was to draw attention to women’s rights, the need for access to education, participation in political and public life. She often spoke at women’s forum in Europe, described the situation of women in the Ukrainian territories of harassment by Romanian authorities against Ukrainians. Repeatedly made petitions, often published their materials on the pages of famous newspapers and magazines. Olga Husar during 1920-1930s were able to accumulate around women of Bukovina, which were part of a different religious, cultural and artistic societies. Her house became a place of gatherings of the intellectual elite of Bukovina and students. Based on the analysis of criminal cases in the archive of the security Service of Ukraine, materials of interrogations, protocols, certificates, intelligence reports shown to the difficult circumstances of life of this extraordinary woman, persecution from the occupying regimes, the indomitable spirit and true patriotism. Olga Husar became a model of courage, intelligence, erudition, dedication.
