THE INFLUENCE OF METALLIC FILLER ON THE CROSS-LINKING OF EPOXY COMPOSITES AND THE FORMATION OF THEIR TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Abstract
The paper presents tribological tests results of chemically setting composites with different qualitative compositions. The polymer matrix of composites was epoxy resin Epidian 5. Powders of bronze, brass, copper, and iron with a specific chemical composition and grain size were used as composite fillers. Composites were cross-linked with aliphatic polyamines at room temperature. T-05 black-on-ring tester measured the tribological characteristics of different material junctions in conformal contact. A steel roller coated by cross-linking and machined to the desired size chemically setting metal-polymer composite was cooperating with a chemically setting composite based counter specimen. The composite – composite conjunction with iron powder filler shows a low friction coefficient and high resistance to wear. The results obtained by infrared spectroscopy showed that the degree of cross-linking of epoxy matrix composites depends on the type of metallic filler.<br/><br/>
