Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 46
Abstract
There is not much information at sources until the second half of the 16th century about institution of judgeship that we know since the foundation of the Ottoman Empire. The first examples of the basic resources about the institution of judgeship, Kadiasker ruznamce registers and ruus registers have been recorded since the second half of the 16th century. However, some short registers belonging before this period provide important information about both judgeships, towns (kaza) and müderris (professor). Here, a register, dated 934 Hijri (1528) and containing information about the kadis who were appointed to some Rumelia towns, will be investigated. The information obtained from the register will be compared with information from Rumelia kadiasker ruznamce registers belonging the second half of 16th century and 17th century and change in system of judgeship and towns of Rumelia will be evaluated.
