Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

The Ottoman Empire was subjected to the coin regime which was used by the states that existed in the Islamic states and periods before the Tanzimat era. The names of the local and foreign currencies that are circulating in the Ottoman Empire can be seen in the fetva registers, which were printed in the 18th century. "Tagsis" which means the changes made about the value of money and "tecdid-i akce" which was the application of a new Padishah on the throne to mint new money on his behalf and remove the old ones from the circulation. There are also informations on various issues related to the currency, such as issues related to counterfeiting activities, negative reflections of changes in money value. These informations in the fetvas seem to confirm the information in the literature when compared with the works written about the money chapters of economic history literature.
