The place of arms by Kovalivka: heroism, tragedy, memory

Abstract
The article analyzes the course and consequences of the operation for the crossing of the Southern Bug river and hold the bridgehead near the village Kovalivka of the Mikolaev area in March 1944. Found several reasons that led to heavy casualties in the fighting for the breakthrough «Shaft Bug» on the eve of the Odessa offensive operation of the 3rd Ukrainian front. Considered a question on creation in Mykolaiv region the Zone of military Glory and perpetuate the memory of fallen soldiers.
