The Protest and Mourning Day Organized by the Ukrainian Emigration in October 29, 1933

Abstract
The paper studies the organization of the Protest and Mourning Day by the Ukrainian emigration in European countries in response to the man-made famine in Ukraine known as the Holodomor. Information from all the available sources on the anti- Soviet protests staged by the Ukrainian diaspora on October 29, 1933 in support of the Holodomor victims is summarized. The mechanism of making the decision to carry out the rally on one day was analyzed; the role of the Civic Relief Committee for Starving Soviet Ukraine was discussed. The preparatory activity aimed at uniting the efforts of the Ukrainian emigration to save the starving was observed. The specificities of holding the marches in different European countries stemming from differences in the attitude of the authorities of these countries were revealed. The coverage of the Protest and Mourning Day by the media and reaction of the local population to the news of the Holodomor are described. The number of the relief measures carried out by the diaspora on October 29, 1933 was estimated.
