The temperature modes’ dynamics in the system “primary clarifier - aerotank - secondary clarifier” of Rivne wwtp

Abstract

Wastewater treatment plants in Ukraine need modernization. Modernization should include the oxidation of organic substances and removal of nitrogen compounds. The temperature regime research was carried out at Rivne municipal wastewater treatment plant in Ukraine for reactors’ design of the oxidation of organic substances and nitrogen compounds. The biological wastewater treatment is performed in aeration tanks of 5 corridor construction. The design wastewater flow rate is 25,000 m3/day. The treated wastewater is discharged into River Ustya. The automated system of environment temperature measurement is developed and tested: clarified wastewater, mixture of wastewater and activated sludge, the activated sludge, treated waste water and the surrounding air. The unit of automatic fixing and data storage consists of the input module (MV110-224.8A), a data collecting module (MSD-200), memory card (MicroSD 8G) and power supply unit (BP30B-D3-24). Experimental data processing allows to choose the design temperature for the nitrification process in case of WWTP modernization and to avoid possible design errors. The temperature change is analyzed through all the profile of wastewater flow sheet of WWTP. Among the main causes of the sharp temperature change of wastewater (∆T> 2 ... 3oC) that comes to the system primary clarifier - aerotank - secondary clarifier of Rivne WWTP is a sharp increase or decrease of wastewater flow rate in the system. The research results allow considering the temperature regimes during the WWTP operation.
