«The Treasure from Aluston»: history of the find

Abstract
In the 1950th, inside the church on the coastal necropolis of the medieval Alushta, E. V. Veimarn unearthed a gravestone with a rich burial inventory of the 14th century (137 objects, and 85 of which are golden). Currently, most of the finds, which are stored in the collections of the Museum of Historical Treasures of Ukraine, have almost completely been put into scientific circulation, but are mistakenly interpreted by modern researchers as a treasure. The nearest analogies of these findings are presented by the Golden Horde’s jewelers of the Bulgar and Majar. It has parallels in the arts and crafts of the Moldavian principality of the 15th–16th cent. At this stage of the monument’s study, for eliminate gaps and contradictions, which determinate of it, has special importance the unpublished archival materials of Tavro-Scythian archaeological expedition of the Crimean branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Among them: diaries, field inventory, drawings, sketches, photographs, correspondence, documents. They allow us to have almost a complete picture of the progress of the work, of the topography of the finds and information about the things. Presumably, in the temple was buried protos – the head of local government, whose post was usually performed by the village elder or priest.
