Journal Title: Чорноморська минувшина - Year 2018, Vol 13, Issue

Abstract

[Book review: Krasnozhon A.V. Fortresses and cities of the Northest Black sea coast (XV-XVIII centuries). – Odesa: Chornomor`ya, 2018. – 312 p.] The cities of the Northwest Black Sea Coast as transition points from the Middle Ages to the Modern era did not create a self-sufficient political or economic force, but thanks to the works of historian Andriy Krasnozhon can be identified as a certain urban-fortification phenomenon. The monograph summarizes the state of the study of the urban-fortification phenomenon of the North-Western Black Sea coast, but did not put a point in these studies. There are wide prospects for further archaeological research, the search for new sources and the interpretation of the old.
