Torso and facial/head pre-cooling and anaerobic cycling performance in a hot and humid environment
Journal Title: Journal of Science and Cycling - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
It has been demonstrated that cooling athletes before (pre-cooling) enabled a higher level of power output developed during exercise (Tyler et al., 2015, British Journal of Sports Medicine, 47, 7-13), increased thermal comfort rates, lowered core and skin temperatures, and enabled a greater capacity of heat storage (Kay et al., 1999, Journal of Sports Sciences, 17, 937-944). However, there is in fact no consensus on the effect of precooling athletes prior to an anaerobic exercise.

The impact of carbon insoles in cycling on performance in the Wingate Anaerobic Test
The usage of innovative technologies in high performance cycling is essential. Special insole devices made of carbon are expected to have an impact on the anatomical and biomechanical structures of the foot. They aim to...
The effects of cycling cleat position on subsequent running performance in a simulated duathlon
Strategies that reduce the physiological load during the cycling phase of triathlon events may enable athletes to perform better during the subsequent running phase. The current study examines the effects of changes in s...
Cyclo-cross Performance and Physiological/Psychological parameters
The new models of exercise performance consider both physiological and psychological parameters to better understand the performance (Marcora 2008: Eur J Appl Physiol 104: 929-931). Despite this, to our knowledge, no stu...
Influence of Absolute versus relative L-arginine Dosage on 1 km and 16.1 km time trial performance in trained cyclists
This investigation aimed to determine the effects of L-arginine supplementation on cycling time trial (TT) performance. Eight trained male cyclists performed 1 and 16.1km time trials on three occasions, control (CON), ab...
European dominance in Triple Iron ultra-triathlons from 1988 to 2011
The aims of this study were (i) to investigate the participation in Triple Iron ultra-triathlons covering 11.4 km swimming, 540 km cycling, and 126.6 km running between 1988 and 2011 and (ii) to analyze the nationalities...
