Abstract
Introduction. Trichomoniasis of small pets is geographically wide spread common disease, there is evidence of detection of Trichomonas spp. in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Oceania. But there is no information about spread of trichomoniasis in Ukraine. The goal of the work. Definition of pathogens prevalence such as Tritrichomonas blagburni and Pentatrichomonas hominis in spontaneously infested pets with symptoms of dysfunction of gastrointestinal tract, and further use of the obtained data to improve diagnostic methods and treatment of trichomoniasis. Materials and methods. The study was conducted among spontaneously infested animals treated with symptoms of dysfunction of gastrointestinal tract in the «Kharkiv veterinary hospital» veterinary clinic in 2016-2018. The feces were tested by direct smear and crushed drop methods. Results of research and discussion. 45 of 183 animals were confirmed to have the parasitic etiology of the disease with symptoms of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, using microscopic, flotation methods of diagnosis and rectal washout method. Among these animals we identified 14 cases of trichomoniasis, 14 – toxocariasis, 5 – trichuriasis, 3 – ancylostomatidae, 3 – dipilidiosis, 4 – cystoisosporosis, 1 – neosporosis, 1 – giardiasis, 6 cases of mixed infestation. Pentatrichomonas hominis was detected in two mongrel dogs. Tritrichomonas blagburni was diagnosed in cats: canadian sphinx, exotic shorthair, scottish fold, devon rex. Among infested dogs were mongrel animals aged from 1.5 months to 8 years, and among pedigreed cats aged from 4 months to 3.5 years. The results of this study indicated a wide spread of Tritrichomonas blagburni among the animals of the Kharkiv region. Conclusions and prospects for further research. The data indicates frequent detection of trichomoniasis agents in pets in the studied area. This research showed the need to expand the research area, to optimize methods of diagnostics and to provide treatment of trichomoniasis of pets. The problem of effective treatment of Tritrichomonas blagburni in domestic cats is still relevant.
