Updating Yourself – How Important It Is?
Journal Title: IDA Ludhiana's Journal - Le Dentistry - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
We all know in this competitive world, we really strive hard to earn our bread and butter. Especially in a city like Ludhiana, with lot many dentists, it becomes even more difficult. We need to spend time with our families also, fulfil our responsibilities and satisfy their demands and what not. In such a scenario, how does one find time to update him or herself? The answer lies in the word priorities! Setting one’s priorities in life is as important is having a meal in a day. We have to understand one thing that we are the ones responsible for our families and their sustenance. Hence we have to take care of ourselves and if we don’t do that, we are lagging on our part towards our essential responsibilities for them We update ourselves, not for our patients, not just for our families, but just for our own self. And this in turn plays an integral part in our well-being and work life. In this world, where so much of knowledge sharing goes on, so much of social media influence exists, I have not seen even a single whats app group or anything like that where one shares regularly the new information or the latest papers read by them. So if we don’t read the regular updates happening around the world, how do we expect to master ourselves and keep oneself upbeat with the latest happenings around the world? What is research all about? Is it just about new expensive materials being introduced into the market by various companies and their products? No, not at all! Any new technique, which has been selfdevised, which we practice regularly in our practices, can help others reduce the burden of treatment onto patients should be shared. The problem is how we perceive the response? We feel I know the best about this technique so we are not ready to hear any criticism regarding it. Positive criticism should always be taken positively, it helps you improve onto the present methods and make the new ones even better. EGO MUST BE LEFT OUT ONCE YOU ARE INTO RESEARCH MODE.So let’s get into our reading mode. Just going through one article per day will be one of the biggest achievements in changing the history and culture of dentistry pan India. More than reading it, sharing it can even help others attain greater knowledge standards. I really appreciate the new endeavour of IDA Ludhiana branch for this journal of ours and I hope it can serve as a starting step in encouraging our readers to ensue new zeniths in the field of dentistry
