VOCATIONAL EDUCATION OF SWITZERLAND: FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The article examined the main characteristics of the vocational education system in Switzerland. It is characterized by solidity and diversity. It is also widely used in many countries around the world and is positively distinguished for the high quality standards. This position is of high priority for the Swiss. To get the vocational education is one of the strongest traditions in a country, which is known for its relatively small territory and high living standards. The author made the initial analysis of the conditions for development and formation of the current state of vocational education in the historical aspect and the criteria for its success. The modern system of vocational education in its present institutional form is represented by colleges, higher specialized schools, polytechnic schools, institutes and universities. The students` orientation of these institutions is aimed in their majority to obtaining a certain industrial speciality. The author identifies the main factors, which contribute to the successful employment of young people in Switzerland and some of the most important benefits of vocational education. One of these benefits is the combination of theoretical and practical training at the enterprise, which allows students to acquire the necessary skills, to become professionally flexible and practical-oriented. As a result, enterprises can influence the formation of a future specialist who, upon graduation, will get into industrial production.
