Journal Title: Politicus - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue
Abstract
The analysis of the letters-privileges of Great Dukes of Lithuania and Polish kings for the Magdeburg Law to the city of Volodymyr has been carried out. The jurisdiction of the Magdeburg Law was extended to the burghers “Lyakhove and Rus’” (Catholics and Orthodox), who were released from the judgment of the governor of Volodymyr and his officers and transferred to the city government. The structure of the city government on the Magdeburg Law, the distribution of powers between Vogt, the council and the lava, their participation in the performance of administrative and judicial functions has been proved. The appointment of Vogt in the cities of Volyn had been in the competence of the Great Duke of Lithuania and Polish king. According to the privilege of 1570, the city government consisted of the Vogt “with the community of the Mayor, advisers and lavnyks”. The term of their credentials was one year. The peculiarities of the existence of the Volodymyr city Vogt institution, the order and volume of revenues from the Vogt institution, the practice of the transition of the Vogt institution from one owner to another have been revealed. The emphasis has been placed on the functioning of the Volodymyr city Vogt institution during the period of the Ludovich family’s governance. Since the 80’s of the fifteenth century to the 60’s of the sixteenth century the government of the Vogt‘s government was inherited from father to son in the Luds family (Ludovich).
