WRITING AS A TYPE OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY
Journal Title: Проблеми системного підходу в економіці - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 67
Abstract
Until now, no one considered writing as an economic type of activity. Traditionally, it was the object of research for historians and philologists. This article shows that writing should be considered as an economic object. A universal model of writing is proposed, which makes it possible to investigate and predict the development of the global writing market or its national segments. All writing products are identified and analysed. The approximate volume of the ancient writing markets and what kind of document circulation existed on them are shown. The approximate size of the market for writing in antiquity is shown. A quantitative assessment is given to compare the competitiveness of different types of writing.Identifying, describing, and researching a new type of economic activity is always an urgent task in the study of the national and global economy. The definition of economic activity, which, because of its complexity and centuries-old history (more than 10500 years), was hidden from the attention of researchers, makes it possible to see and reassess the impact of economic factors on the development of the economy as a whole and its individual industries in the past and today. Given the current trends in the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research, the modelling of writing is also an important task in building an artificial intelligence system for researching this type of activity and predicting its development. The specificity of the study of a new type of economic activity is the absence of literary sources, on the basis of which the author could analyse the state of research in this area and what unsolved problems are facing science in this area. So far, writing has been studied as a scientific object by historians and philologists. Archaeologists delivered written records; historians put forward and substantiated various hypotheses and theories about the origin of writing. In terms of history, writing modelling allows for a new explanation of known historical facts, answering questions about the origin of various types of writing, showing the history, chronology of documenting and developing various types of trade and postal operations, as well as showing historians and archaeologists what factors should be paid attention when interpreting new finds. The definition of writing within this model allows historians to attribute both Mayan talking knots and tokens of the ancient peoples of Mesopotamia, Central Asia, and China to the written language. For the purposes of artificial intelligence, the presented model allows us to formalize the process of transmitting messages in space and time.Within the proposed writing model, the influence of economic factors in various educational systems remains unclear. Historically, there remains an open question about the origin of Chinese writing and forecasts of the future fate of this last remaining type of pictographic writing.
