Abstract

Guiltiness is an important factor in the moral development of man. It is an integral part of the development of human personality. In the modern world the religious guiltiness, associated with a relationship to God is often weakened and reduced to the experience of guilt only on the mental or moral level. This often stems from the desire to get an instant gratification and satisfaction of one’s cravings while the need for ascetics, effort and getting over one’s weaknesses is not taken into account. The causes for such a situation are as follows: treating faith instrumentally and defensively; an impact of some of today’s trends in the Humanities demonstrating guilt as a threat, or regress in development; inspiration derived from certain elements of postmodern culture, indicating the need to focus primarily on meeting one’s own aspirations and desires.
