Abstract

The above deliberations point out the importance and strength of both cultural and national identity in the process of materializing and rebuilding Poland as a nation, as well as their correlation with the reason of state. In the aforementioned periods Poland was represented over the ages by its exceptional cultural and scientific representatives and despite numerous unfavorable circumstances continued to maintain its self-determination. The same determination proved to be a keepsake of traditions, which was a proof of Polish identity, heritage and individuali-ty. It occurred as a force of unrelenting qualities such as freedom, equali-ty and independence. The bearer of these values has been the memory written down in history and tradition. On each of the presented stages of rebuilding the Polish nation, the rulers, whom aspired to strengthen the country and earn freedom and sovereignty of Republic of Poland had noticed the power of education and its effect on national awareness in the process of restoring and hardening the nation’s dominance and standing. Up until 1939 the turning points defining the Polish history were armed uprisings against the invaders as well as participation in battles which were supposed to bring Poland back on the world map. The deprivation of freedom caused by Yalta-Potsdam conferences forced Poland to re-consider the battle strategy. The whole nation remaining under the USSR influence and undergoing the process of Stalinization continued to broad-en the field for democracy in protests and speeches. The point of break-through for our deliberations should be considered as June 1976, the main reason being the reaching middle ground by all the social groups, which in turn connected all the necessities of political and social changes. The declarations of opposing organizations, as the above material shows, not only did put out economical claims, but also mentioned the topic of broadening the political and cultural freedom. The goals were to slow-ly break the ongoing regime, democratize the political structures of the nation, release the culture and intelligence of the ever-existing censor-ship, put the establishment under control, returning the control over the country back to the Polish nation and broadening the awareness of citi-zens. This “school-leaving certificate” of sorts, which was gained by the opposition over the course of years and supported by values present from the periods of I and II Republic of Poland, was manifested by continuous pursuit towards a political system realized in the vein of sovereignty and independence defining the reason of state of Polish nation. The process of rebuilding Poland required protection of culture and national heritage on each and every presented stage. The necessity of this matter in regards to a country’s survival is proven by the fact that in difficult times these values had been not only a shield, but a weapon used to fight over keeping the Polish identity and national heritage. One could say that not only do these values maintain an unbreakable bond with national identity, but as can be observed from the above deliberations they also have a permanent effect on the process of forming the reason of state. This in turn also confirms the essential nature of culture and national heritage in the process of rebuilding the independence and sovereignty of Poland.
