Anarchizm a nihilizm w Rosji w latach 60. i 70. XIX wieku. Historyczno-filozoficzny zarys zagadnienia

Abstract

Anarchism and nihilism, two very important trends in 19th century sociopolitical thought, are often confused in contemporary public discourse. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the- in identification is unwarranted because they differ significantly. Where and how their characteristics diverge is discussed from the point of view of Mikhail Bakunin and Peter Kropotkin., two leading representatives of Russian anarchism who at different phases of their revolutionary intellectual and activist lives took interest in the ideas of various nihilistic movements and organizations. Ba¬kunin briefly collaborated with Sergey Nechayev, a well-known nihilist who was just a terrorist and a killer, while Kropotkin was for about two years a member of a nihilist student organization known as „The Circle of Tchaikovsky”. Yet in neither case were Bakunin’s and Kropotkin’s maturę doctrines - anarcho-collectivism and anarcho-communism, respectively - significantly influenced by the¬ir nihilist experiences. Each claimed that the ideas of anarchism and nihilism were distinct and diffe¬rent. For the sake clarity and brevity, the meaning of nihilism is limited here to its social aspect connected with the Russian narodniks’ idea of „going to the people”.
