Class analysis and the thesis of Moishe Postone
Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2011, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
In this article we picked up the discussion about the ways to conceptualize working class, proposed by REMS en his frst issue. We have added few interventions and materials to this discussion. The historical and structural dimensions had remained separated in the class analysis tradition. Both aspects should be unifed as dynamic totality in a concept of social class. The Moishe Postone´s book Time, labor and social domination shows some determinations of this historical dynamic, but keeps inside the logic of capital as the unique historical directionality. The critique of Marcel Van der Linden is not enough. In his conceptualization of working class, he doesn’t consider the class struggle dimension. An integral approach on working class has to include and to relate the dynamic of objective materiality and activity of transformation.
