Empirical verification of a digital model of a basket ball to assess elastic properties of sports floors

Abstract

The rebound height of a ball from the floor surface is a parameter defining resilience of floors for indoor sports facilities, e.g. sports halls. The minimum value of its rebound should never be lower than that specified in a respective standard for a given type of sports flooring. This parameter is determined based on an experiment, in which a specific ball is used, previously scaled using the so-called rigid surface. Results of these tests were used to verify FEM digital models. The presented analysis of dynamic parameters of the system is preliminary in character and may prove useful in designing sports floor structures made from wood or other structural materials.
