Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

Background: Thyriod disorders are the most common endocrine disorders worldwide. The main purpose of FNA is to provide rational approach for management and determine the correct surgical procedure when surgery is required. The objectives were to assess the cytologic and morphologic features of thyroid swellings, the age of occurrence, sex predilection of various thyroid disorders and classify based on TBSRTC. Methods: In the present study, evaluation of 402 cases of thyroid FNA’s were undertaken and interpreted and classified according to TBSRTC Results In the present study a total of 402 cases of which 295 cases were non neoplastic lesions,4 cases suspicious for malignancy and 19 cases neoplastic lesions by FNAC. The results were further classified under TBSRTC. Conclusion: Reviewing the thyroid FNA’s with the Bethesda system for reporting allowed precise cytological diagnosis. It represents standardization and reproducibility in reporting thyroid cytology with improved clinical significance and greater predictive value.
