GLOBALIZATION AND URBAN POVERTY: A SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Globalization corresponds to rapid change and transformations that occurred throughout the world in the last few decades. While transformations are creating various opportunities according to time and space differs in the scope of winners and losers each term. İn global epoch the cities has reconstructed in the point of can be blood streams of capitalism. Especially, the masses who formed their own sheltered areas with the welfare state applications are left to fend for themselves with the neo-liberal policies in the new period. İn the light of globalization, urban poverty draws attention as a matter of topic (particularly for mass effects of exactly the unpredictable future and the results of neoliberalism) that should be seriously considered in terms of reflections in areas of socio-economic, political, psychological, cultural etc. In this study is analyzed that effects on the urban poors of basic dynamics occuring in the context of transformations in areas of economic and political with the process of globalization.
