Abstract
The article presents the developments on forming the information economy. Defined criteria attributes of the information economy and presents the data for Kazakhstan. The modern world community is entering a qualitatively new state. Globalization and interdependence open new opportunities for economic development, technological progress, including the development of information technologies and information systems. The initial prerequisite for the classification of the historical maturity of human society is the information criterion, conditioned by the level of organization in it of scientific knowledge and information.
