Journal Title: Eurasian Journal of Family Medicine - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Gout is a clinical condition that is more common in middle-aged men, incidence reaches about 3%. Persistent hyperuricemia might arouse excessive urate production and/or failure in renal urate secretion. If asymptomatic hyperuricemia is not treated, clinical disease occurs in up to 75% of patients within 20 years. Intercritical asymptomatic episodes follows recurrent episodes of arthritis; eventually it develops chronic arthritis and tophaceous gout. Uric acid lowering therapy has provided significant decline of chronic gouty arthritis and tophaceous gout. Here, we report a tophaceous gout case who has tophi on his both hands, olecranon and first metatarsophalengeal joints.
