KUR’ÂN’DA “ISTIF” KAVRAMININ TAHLİLİ

Abstract
In the Quran, the concept of ‘ıstıfâ’ is generally used as mean of ‘to choose’, ‘to prevail’, ‘to make someone prominent’ or ‘to prefer’; however it is a concept that interests people, in particular. Allaah has made human beings superior and promi-nent among the creatures, and he has stated that some people are superior than ot-hers. Allaah chose some people as prophets and stated that some prophets are supe-rior than others. Moreover, his making some ummah-within their own age- superior than others shows us the other dimension of concept of ‘ıstıfâ’. The importance, per-petuity or temporariness of this prominence and superiority has been one of the is-sues that all people have discussed until now. Almighty Allaah has clearly stated the criteria and reasons of being prominent and superior in the Quran.
