LEXICAL GAPS AS A CULTURAL PHENOMENON: SPECIAL ASPECTS OF TRANSLATION EQUIVALENT SELECTION IN THE AREA OF MEDICAL TERMS (USING THE MATERIAL OF DENTAL TEXTS)

Abstract
The article deals with the concept of lacunarity within the area of scientific medical texts translation including dental texts. Also it is specified methods and techniques of filling the linguistic gaps in the process of the English-Ukrainian translation of medical and dental terms and the theoretical understanding of the lacunarity phenomenon in the aspect of intercultural scientific communication within the area of medicine and dentistry as well. In addition, the study provides practical tips and advices for translators and provides a number of examples to illustrate the methods and techniques of filling lexical gaps in the translation process of scientific medical texts. Moreover, a series of linguistic processes those take place in medical scientific discourse and which help to solve the problem of lacunarity in the process of translation of texts on medical topics are described in the research.
