Methodology of creation of territorial zoning maps based on characteristic values of climatic loads

Abstract

The cartographic method of territorial zoning of climatic loads consists in division of territory into several regions with district values close to the biggest characteristic load value in the given territorial area. It is necessary to separate the random fluctuations of the data of individual weather stations from the general trend of load changing across the territory during maps development. The most used methodology of creation maps of territorial zoning is based on the data smoothing of meteorological stations with weighted functions, which take into account the amounts of meteorological observations and distances to meteorological stations. This method has been improved in such a way that it provides more detailed maps, maximum full use of meteorological information and management of territorial zoning reserves during maps development. After creation of the automated procedure of determining the boundaries of the territorial districts, the map is edited in the graphical system environment. The using of improved technique is illustrated by the example of the development of territorial zoning map of Ukraine by ice weight based on the data of 172 plain meteorological stations in Ukraine. This load is the most variable by the area, making its territorial zoning more difficult. The developed map of territorial zoning contains five territorial regions with characteristic values of ice weight 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 N/m. Security level of territorial zoning 0,95 means that in about 5% of the territory of Ukraine a map lowers the actual characteristic values of ice load. Because developed map is more detailed than the map of current climatic load rules of Ukraine it’s more effective. With a higher security level of zoning, the total load level has slightly decreased.
