Journal Title: Матеріали і дослідження з археології Прикарпаття і Волині - Year 2016, Vol 20, Issue
Abstract
A question about Slavic antiquities of central part of Carpathian basin behaves to most difficult and the least studied. Long time the Hungarian historians and archaeologists that stood on nationalistic positions, did not consider to engage the study of Slavs, their material and spiritual culture. The coming of the ancient Slavs to the Tisa-Danubian area, the North-Trakian ethnic element of the population radically changed upon the Slav one. The invasion of the Hungarian tribes into the Carpathian valley at the end of IX century A.D. and the formation of the early feudal Hungarian State introduce new changes into the ethnicity. As known, a period from the end of VI to the beginning of IX century got in the history of Hungary the name Avar. In archaeological relation, he is characterized with large burial tombs, with thousands of burial places, among that also there is a burial place of bits and pieces of population of Roman time and Slavs. For the displaying of Avar-Slav relations data of archaeology have a primary value, that is why among funerals distinguish the Slavic finds, and in some Avar burial tombs the Slavic complexes. The problem of influence of Avar on Slavic society is insufficiently elaborated as a result of the limit of source base. The first considerable researches of Slavic monuments began in Hungary after the Second World War. Area of Zala became their centre. A new wave of researches dated back to the end of 70 the of XX century, when the Slavic elements were fixed more than on 30 sights. They clasp the end of VIII – the second half of the IX century. A basic merit in the study of Slavs belongs to A. Shosh, that more than 30 years have conducted excavations in area of Zala. She set Slavic belonging of burial tombs in Zalavar, Oroslan, Dunasekche, Pokasepetk. The row of scientists (J. Hampel, P. Vazhi, D. Shimony) the settling of Tisa-Danubian area attribute to VII-IX century and bound with Avar conquest and falling of Avar kingdom. I. Erdely has a data, which concern of Slavic finds from VI to IX century. They point out that from the time of great migration of nations the Slavs have stayed in various parts of Carpathian basin. Among the finds of Avar time, there are western Slavic ethnic components. These finds grounded to talk about penetration of the separate Slavic groups on territory of Pannonia and Alfeld as early as epoch of Langobards. A historiography analysis testifies that Slavs settled the Tisa-Danubian area during the considerable interval of time, that overcame a period from the end of II to VII-IX century.
