STRUCTURAL LOGICAL MODEL OF FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF IT COMPETENCE OF FUTURE DOCTORS AND PHARMACISTS IN THE PROCESS OF TEACHING NATURAL SCIENCES

Abstract

Under conditions of an informational technological society, it is essential that modern doctors and pharmacists, as users of information technologies, resources and services, have necessary information technology competence (the IT competence). The IT competence of doctors and pharmacists is understood as an integrative characteristic of specialists which combines knowledge, abilities and skills formed in the teaching / learning process as well as their personal qualities, which manifest themselves in the application of information technology in their practical professional activity. That is why there arises a necessity to construct such a model of its formation and development while teaching the disci- plines of Natural Sciences which would fully ensure the readiness of future specialists to use information technolo- gies in their professional activity. The research takes into account, that information technology literacy (the IT literacy) is an elementary level of the formation of the IT competence of future doctors and pharmacists. It is also one of the main criteria designating the efficiency of the activity realized by the participants of the educational process. The IT literacy, in its turn, determines the information technology culture (the ІТ culture) of future specialists, which displays their ability to practical implementation of information and communication technologies in their professional activity. In our opinion, the IT competence, which is formed and developed while teaching future doctors and pharma- cists the disciplines of Natural Sciences, is characterized by cognitive or gnoseological, (tele)communication- oriented, adaptive, normative, evaluative, developing functions. On the other hand, we consider that the structure of this competence consists of the motivational-evaluative, cognitive, technological, activity- and creativity-centred or operational, (tele)communication-oriented, person- evaluative, reflexive, axiological and emotional-volitional components. This has made it possible to stipulate the presence of motivational-evaluative, content-rich, organizational and technological, and diagnostic units in the created structural logical model facilitating the formation and development of the future doctors’ and pharmacists’ IT competence. This model is characterized by integrity because all its components are interrelated, have a certain semantic load, and allow increasing the level of the future specialists’ IT competence . The research has established, that the use of the score-rating system of evaluation during while teaching the dis- ciplines of Natural Sciences in the process of this model implementation makes it possible to intensify the curricular and extracurricular activities of the subjects of the educational process, improve the quality of independent work of future doctors and pharmacists, direct their activities to the use of modern information and communication technol- ogies and apply the gained knowledge in new situations or conditions. According to the research, it could be assumed that the realization of the developed structural logical model in the process of teaching the disciplines of Natural Sciences is able to provide a stage-by-stage formation as well as a continuous development of the IT competence of future doctors and pharmacists simultaneously with the formation and development of their professional competence under conditions of the score-rating system of education not only in Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University but also in other medical and pharmaceutical universities.
