Journal Title: Вісник Львівського університету. Серія психологічні науки - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue
Abstract
The article analyzes the peculiarities of managerial potential of IT specialists. The classification of leadership styles in the IT-industry is formed. The urgency of the article is determined by the rapid development of this sector of the economy, the need to study and analyze the effectiveness of different leadership styles. 182 IT-specialists aged 29 to 54 years old, who underwent psychodiagnostic examination on the basis of a recruiting company engaged in the professional selection of specialists for Ukrainian and international IT companies, were investigated. The exploratory method of classification is used – the method of two-step cluster analysis. In the analysis of such elements of managerial potential as personality traits and value orientations, two clusters are extracted that distribute IT-specialists according to the following leadership styles: "distant style" and "commitment style". The first style is characterized by the delegation of responsibility, the desire to act as a third-party observer, an attempt to listen more than to speak. Such specialists rarely express their views on certain points, avoid disputes and conflicts, have their own idea of existing norms and rules. Leadership of such IT-specialists may often be of a formal nature. The second style is characterized by the priority of active relationships with their immediate surroundings, taking responsibility and authority for themselves, even in small affairs, actively promoting their own ideas. Such leaders follow the rules and regulations that have been established in a certain organizational culture. In analyzing such blocks of managerial potential, such as intellectual, creative, activity, leadership and social-communicative potential, two clusters have been identified that distribute IT professionals in the following leadership styles: "parity style" and "dominant style". The first style is characterized by communicating equal social status communicants. The second style is different authoritarian-command register and characterizes the communication of unequal partners.
