THE WORK OF ADHESION AND FREE SURFACE ENERGY COMPONENT UTILIZATION IN TRIBOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SURFACE LAYER CONDITIONS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 240, Issue 6
Abstract
Tribological aspects of the utilisation of surface layer energy conditions related to the description of tribological system properties are presented in this article. As an example, an estimation of the energy conditions of steel 42CrMo4 surface layer after burnishing was made. This estimation was made using values of surface free energy and its components determined by the acid-base method. Additionally, the work of adhesion in the system of 42CrMo4 steel– –paraffin oil and the measured wetting of paraffin oil on the surface of the tested steel was evaluated. The obtained results are considered in the context of mechanisms responsible for adhesive wear and scuffing.
