THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE TEMPERATURE PROFILE IN HYDRODYNAMIC THRUST BEARING

Abstract

In this paper, some example results of calculations focused on the assessment of pivoted pad thrust bearing operation are presented. Results were obtained with the use of a calculation technique called FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction). This method utilises the automatic exchange of information between fluid (evaluated with CFD) and structural (evaluated with FEM) domains, which are necessary in bearing lubrication problem investigations. Analysis was carried out for a hydrodynamic thrust bearing, for which experimental data had been collected at Gdansk University of Technology SON test stand. Selected results of theoretical investigations were compared to results of measurements, and on this basis, proposed model accuracy was determined.<br/><br/>
