Karol Wojtyła played a significant role in the work of the Polish Episcopate Conference and in the work of its specialist committees. From 1958 he was a member of the Polish Episcopate Conference, and in 1964 he became a part of the inner management circle – the Polish Episcopate Main Committee/Main Council. Within the scope of duties he prepared pastoral letters; participated in the forming of relationships with the authorities of the Polish People’s Republic; was responsible for contacts with the Holy See and foreign conferences of episcopates; inspired changes in the organizational structure, purposes and tasks of the Polish Episcopate Conference. Karol Wojtyła’s important contribution to the Polish Episcopate Conference was his participation in the work of specialist committees.
