ZAPOROZHIAN SICH AS A NATIONAL POLITICAL PHENOMENON AND A NATIVE OF THE UKRAINIAN STATEHOOD

Abstract
The article focuses on the formation of a Zaporozhian Sich management mechanism – the Cossack military-political association, which existed in the Ukrainian territory in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, and acquired virtually all the signs of statehood. The main focus is on democratic features in self-government, which allows many scholars to call the study education the first democratic republic in Europe. It describes the administrative and territorial structure of the Sich, the peculiarities of the hierarchical interaction between the various levels of power upper and social estates, the differences between the military and the Palanka organization, the formation of the system of relations between the Sich and the surrounding geopolitical environment and with the Hetmanate. Plenty of this material is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the national mentality, beliefs, spirituality as an essential factor of the political system. The main idea of the research is to prove the importance of national elements in the organization of power for its legitimacy and to emphasize the decisive political role of the Cossacks in the further development of Ukrainian state construction.
