A Review on various HPLC and Spectrophotometric methods for determination of Atenolol and Nifedipine in combined formulations
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 5
Abstract
Atenolol and Nifedipine in combination are used as Anti – hypertensives. High blood pressure is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. Atenolol competes with the sympathomimetic neurotransmitters such as catecholamines for binding at beta (1) adrenergic - receptors in the heart and vascular smooth muscle, inhibiting sympathetic stimulation. This results in reduction in resting heart rate. It involves pH – dependent calcium influx via inhibition of smooth muscle carbonic anhydrase. Nifedipine is used to treat hypertension and chronic stable angina. This article reviews various analytical methods for the determination of Atenolol and Nifedipine in pharmaceutical formulations that were published from 2012- 2015 which include various HPLC and spectrophotometric techniques.
