Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2019, Vol 10, Issue 2
Abstract
Background: Oral cavity is a frequent site for the various non neoplastic lesions. Since oral mucosal growths are frequently encountered clinically, biopsies are subjected for histopathological examination. Methods: The present study included 75 cases of non neoplastic lesions of oral cavity. The study was carried out in the Department of Pathology, RIMS, Raichur, India, for a period of three years, from January 2016 to December 2018. Results: In the present study a total of 75 cases of non neoplastic lesions of oral cavity were studied. The age range of the patients was from 7 to 70 years and the mean age was 38.5 years. Most of the lesions (26.6%) were found in the second decade of life followed by 6th decade (graph 2). Males were more commonly affected 46 (61.3%) than females 29(38.7%) with male to female ratio of 1.5: 1(Graph 1). The most affected site affected was lip (36%) followed by tongue 22(29.33%)and buccal mucosa 19(25.3%) respectively. Conclusion: Non neoplastic lesion of oral cavity have varied clinical presentation. Histopathological evaluation plays crucial role in confirming the diagnosis of oral cavity lesions. Present study highlights the relative frequency, types and distribution of non neoplastic lesions of the oral cavity.
