LAS CONVERGENCIAS EDUCATIVAS DE MOVIMIENTOS SOCIALES EN AMÉRICA LATINA. TRANSITANDO OTROS CAMINOS

Abstract
For several decades social movements in Latin America have been questioning the role of the State with regard to education, either because it has decreased financial resources for funding or because, through education, State has imposed and made viable its economic and sociocultural policies. Faced with these questions, some movements are implementing projects in formal and informal education, not to take responsibility for the State, but to demand it the right to education from autonomy. Here we present four alternative education experiences of social movements developed in our continent: the Universidad Intercultural Indígena del Cauca (UAIIN) of Colombia; the Universidad Intercultural Amawtay Wasi of Ecuador; the Bachilleratos Populares of Argentina and the Escuela de Formación Sindical (ENFOC) of Brazil. As we approach them we find that they are spatially distanced (they are located in four different countries), they have different emphases (universities, high schools and non-formal education), and they are addressed to different kinds of people (Indigenous, rural workers and urban dwellers). Despite the differences, the experiences have many more things in common which we will present in this article: political interest, autonomy, and the transit to other knowledges and places.
