PARADYGM OF THE SEMANTIC CATEGORY OF COMPLETENESS ON THE SYNTACTIC LEVEL OF LANGUAGE
Journal Title: ІНОЗЕМНА ФІЛОЛОГІЯ - Year 2014, Vol 127, Issue 2
Abstract
Analysis of syntactic units with semantics of completeness shows that the concept “completeness” is multivariable, and can be viewed as completeness of an action or a time period as well as completeness of number, quantity or quality. A quantitative analysis of syntactic structures selected from the British National Corpus (BNC) has been carried out. On the basis of the semantic and quantitative analyses results, the core and the periphery of the functional-semantic field of completeness on the syntactic level of English have been distinguished.
