The Investigation of Thermal Conductivity Coefficients of H3BO3/PP Composites
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to provide additional contributions to insulating and energy savings by lowering the thermal conductivity values of the polypropylene used in areas where especially the insulating properties are important. In this context, composite materials were produced by adding boric acid as particles having low thermal conductivity value into the polypropylene. Within the scope of the study, boric acid particles at three different ratios ranging from 0.5 to 2.5% were added into the polypropylene by mass. Composite mixtures prepared with a twin screw extruder were then molded by injection molding method and text specimens were produced. Thermal conductivity values of the samples produced were measured experimentally and the results obtained were compared with the effective thermal conductivity models in the literature. As a result of the study, boric acid has been seen to have an effect to decrease the thermal conductivity of the polypropylene.
